Is It Just Fear…Or Is Your Gut Feeling Trying to Tell You Something?

You know that moment… When something new shows up - an opportunity, a decision, a direction - and something begins to stir inside you.

You feel it in your chest, or your belly, or somewhere deeper that’s harder to explain.

A flutter, a tightness, a stillness…

Something is speaking... But what is it actually saying?...

And maybe even more importantly, can you trust it?...

It’s tricky, because that inner reaction could be your gut feeling trying to protect you, or your fear trying to keep you small…

And when you’ve spent years (or decades) second-guessing yourself, overriding your instincts, or learning to play safe to feel accepted…the signals can get mixed and confused.

So how do you know the difference?

Fear shouts. Intuition whispers

Fear tends to feel fast and loud.

It floods your system with all the reasons not to do something…

  • What if you fail?

  • What if they judge you?

  • What if it all falls apart?

It feels like a rush of anxious thoughts, a tightening in your chest, a sense of contraction.

It’s old conditioning pulling you back into what's familiar - even if familiar isn’t what you want anymore…

But your gut? Your intuition?...

That voice is quieter. Steadier.

It often shows up as a quiet no...

Or a calm, anchored yes - even if that yes feels big and scary.

It’s not always comfortable, but it’s not chaotic...

It feels like a deep part of you just knows.

The truth most people miss:

You can’t tune into your intuition if you don’t trust yourself.

Self-trust is the foundation….

And if you’ve been silencing parts of yourself for years…

If you’ve been told you're “too much”, “too sensitive”, “too emotional”...

If you’ve learned to dismiss what your body is trying to tell you…

Then of course it’s hard to know what’s what…

Because when the fear sounds like your own voice, it can be hard to tell it apart from your truth.

This is where the deeper work begins

It’s not about choosing quickly, or pushing through.

It’s about slowing down enough to hear what’s really going on underneath all the noise.

Sometimes when a big decision lands, I pause and ask myself:

  • “Will this move me closer to who I truly am - or further away?”

  • “Is this the resistance of growth… or the wisdom of my gut?”

And if the answer doesn’t come right away, which is doesn’t usually - I don’t force it.

I give it space. I listen to the sensations in my body…

Because the body always knows.

Here’s what I’ve noticed working with clients at the subconscious level:

When it’s fear, it often connects to an old, unresolved story…

Something that once protected you, but now holds you back.

When it’s your intuition, it feels like clarity.

Maybe not complete certainty, but clarity.

A gentle knowing, even when the next step feels big.

And sometimes, the fear and intuition are wrapped up together…

Because real growth often does feel scary…

And real alignment often does ask something big of you.

So what do you do when you’re not sure?

You stop.

You feel.

You ask.

  • “What part of me is speaking right now?”

  • “What does this feeling need me to know?”

  • “Is this protecting me or preventing me?”

When you learn to be with your feelings instead of pushing them down or brushing them off, you start to build self trust.

You start to distinguish the subtle voice of your truth from the loud noise of fear.

And with time…

That voice gets louder…

You become clearer…

And your choices start coming from a place of self-trust, not self-doubt.

Your gut feeling is rarely wrong

But your relationship to it might need healing.

That’s the work I do with women every day.

The deep, subconscious healing that helps you feel safe enough to trust your inner wisdom again...

So you can live, lead and decide from who you truly are, not who you learned to be…

Because freedom, clarity and self-trust…

They’re already within you.

We just need to create the safety to let them rise.

>> Have you ever mistaken fear for your gut feeling - or vice versa?

I’d love to hear what this brought up for you.

If anything resonates or you’d like support unravelling the noise so you can truly hear yourself again, I’d love to invite you to get in touch for a chat.
